This simple hand exercise involves squeezing a soft or hard ball (such as a stress ball or tennis ball) to strengthen the muscles of the hand and forearm.
It’s commonly prescribed to improve grip strength, support recovery after hand, wrist or shoulder injuries, and assist with conditions like arthritis or tendon irritation.
Sit or stand comfortably with your arm relaxed by your side or supported on a surface.
Hold a soft ball in your hand, ensuring your fingers and thumb are wrapped evenly around it.
Gently squeeze the ball by closing your fingers and thumb together.
Aim for a smooth, controlled motion rather than a quick or forceful squeeze.
Hold the squeeze for as long as prescribed by your physiotherapist, maintaining even pressure through all fingers.
Slowly release the grip back to the starting position.
Keep your wrist in a neutral position (not bent forwards or backwards) throughout.
Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
