  • This simple hand exercise involves squeezing a soft or hard ball (such as a stress ball or tennis ball) to strengthen the muscles of the hand and forearm.
  • It’s commonly prescribed to improve grip strength, support recovery after hand, wrist or shoulder injuries, and assist with conditions like arthritis or tendon irritation.
  • Sit or stand comfortably with your arm relaxed by your side or supported on a surface.
  • Hold a soft ball in your hand, ensuring your fingers and thumb are wrapped evenly around it.
  • Gently squeeze the ball by closing your fingers and thumb together.
  • Aim for a smooth, controlled motion rather than a quick or forceful squeeze.
  • Hold the squeeze for as long as prescribed by your physiotherapist, maintaining even pressure through all fingers.
  • Slowly release the grip back to the starting position.
  • Keep your wrist in a neutral position (not bent forwards or backwards) throughout.
  • Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
