Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your Newcastle West physio clinic located?
Peak Physio Newcastle West is at 2/826 Hunter Street, directly across from Newcastle Interchange. We're a short walk from Wickham, Carrington, Hamilton, Islington, and the harbour precinct, making us an easy choice for inner-city locals and people working in Newcastle CBD.
Where can I park?
There's 2-hour paid street parking on the streets adjoining the clinic. Marketown's east car park is also nearby and offers up to 2 hours free for shoppers. If you'd prefer not to drive, public transport is a great option.
Can I get there by public transport?
Yes, very easily. We're directly across the road from Newcastle Interchange, so trains, buses, and the Newcastle Light Rail all stop within a minute's walk of the clinic.
What are your opening hours?
We're open Monday to Friday and offer earlier and later appointments to suit clients who work standard business hours. The fastest way to check current availability is to book online or give the clinic a call.
Do I need a GP referral to see a physio?
No, you don't need a referral to book a physiotherapy appointment with us. Most clients book directly. A referral is only required if you're attending under a specific scheme, such as a Chronic Care Management Plan (CCMP), workers compensation, or CTP.
Do you accept private health insurance?
Yes. Our Newcastle West physiotherapists are registered with all major Australian private health funds, and we have HICAPS on site. You can claim your rebate at the time of your appointment and only pay the gap.
Can I claim through Medicare?
Yes, if you have a Chronic Care Management Plan (CCMP) from your GP. Medicare provides a rebate (~$60) for a set number of physiotherapy sessions per calendar year under that plan. Bring the referral and care plan to your first appointment and our team will take care of the paperwork.
Do you take workers compensation and CTP claims?
Yes. Our Newcastle West clinic accepts workers compensation and CTP (motor accident) claims. To get started we'll need your claim number, insurer details, and a referral from your treating doctor. We'll liaise with your insurer directly so you can focus on recovery.
Do you offer NDIS physiotherapy?
Yes. We support NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed at our Newcastle West clinic. Sessions focus on practical goals around mobility, strength, and independence, with plans that flex as your progress builds.
Do you treat sports injuries?
Absolutely. Our team works with athletes from local clubs, runners, gym-goers, and weekend warriors across Newcastle West, Hamilton, Carrington, and the inner-city suburbs. We treat the full range of sports injuries, from acute sprains and strains to overuse issues, and we provide return-to-sport plans so you don't come back too soon.
Do you run Pilates and other classes at Newcastle West?
Yes. Our Newcastle West clinic runs both physio-led Pilates classes and Over-60s Balance Classes on site. Pilates is a great fit for clients working through back pain, post-injury rehab, or general strength and mobility, while our balance classes focus on falls prevention and confidence with movement.
How long is a physio appointment?
We offer both 30-minute and 45-minute appointments. For initial consultations we recommend booking the longer 45-minute slot where possible, as it gives us time to take a full history, assess thoroughly, and start treatment on the same day.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing works best so we can move and assess freely. If you're coming straight from work or haven't had a chance to change, don't stress, we keep clean shorts and singlets at the clinic that you're welcome to borrow. Private treatment rooms are available.
Do you offer mobile physio?
Yes. For clients in and around Newcastle West who can't easily travel to the clinic due to mobility, illness, or access issues, our team provides in-home physiotherapy across the inner-city Newcastle area.
