The assisted shoulder abduction with a stick is a gentle mobility exercise that helps restore movement in the shoulder joint. By using the stick to guide the arm outward, it reduces strain on the shoulder muscles while encouraging a smooth, controlled range of motion. This exercise is commonly used in rehabilitation after injury or surgery to improve flexibility, reduce stiffness, and support healthy shoulder function.

  • Come into a lying position unless directed otherwise.
  • Take the end of the stick in the hand of the affected side.
  • Using the unaffected arm predominately, guide the stick across the body to raise the affected side to the side.
  • Take it to the point of comfort and slowly return to the start posture.
  • Repeat for the designated number of repetitions as advised by your Physiotherapist.
