- The step-up into knee drive is a dynamic lower limb strengthening and balance exercise.
- It primarily targets the quadriceps and gluteus maximus of the stepping leg, whilst also engaging the calf muscles and hip flexors on the lifting leg.
- This movement improves single-leg strength, balance, coordination and power.
- Stand facing a sturdy step.
- Place one foot firmly on top of the step, engaging your core to maintain an upright posture.
- Press through the heel of the foot on the step to lift your body upwards.
- As you straighten the stepping leg, drive your opposite knee up in a controlled motion.
- Pause briefly at the top while maintaining balance.
- Slowly lower the raised leg back to the floor with control, followed by the stepping foot to return to the starting position.
- Repeat on the opposite leg.
- Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
