The theraband woodchopper is a dynamic core exercise that mimics a chopping motion, engaging the obliques, abdominals, shoulders, and hips. It’s commonly prescribed to improve rotational strength, trunk control, and coordination between the upper and lower body. This movement is particularly useful for functional activities and sports that involve twisting or diagonal patterns.

  • Anchor the theraband securely around a sturdy pole or door handle.
  • Stand side-on to the anchor point with feet shoulder-width apart.
  • Hold the band with both hands, arms extended, starting near the anchor point.
  • Keep your chest tall and maintain your foot position throughout the movement.
  • Maintaining straight arms, pull the band across your body, rotating through your trunk and hips, finishing with your arms pointing away from the anchor.
  • Control the return movement back to the starting position, resisting the band’s pull.
  • Keep your arms relatively straight and let the movement come from your torso rather than just your shoulders.
  • Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
