The ankle plantarflexion exercise strengthens the calf muscles and improves control of the ankle joint. By pressing the foot downward against resistance, it builds power and stability needed for walking, running, and jumping. This movement is commonly prescribed in rehabilitation for ankle injuries and to restore push-off strength after periods of reduced activity.

  • Wrap the resistance band around the foot and hold onto both ends.
  • Come into a sitting position with affected limb out long resting on a towel to elevate the foot.
  • With a straight knee, move the ankle so the toes are pointing towards the ground.
  • Slowly return to the start position.
  • Repeat as per Physiotherapist’s guidelines.
