Toe yoga is a foot control exercise designed to improve strength, coordination, and independence of the toe muscles. It targets the intrinsic muscles of the foot and helps improve arch control, balance, and foot stability. This exercise is commonly prescribed for foot weakness, plantar fasciitis, bunions, and lower limb rehabilitation to improve neuromuscular control of the foot and toes.
- Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor.
- Keep your heel and the ball of your foot in contact with the ground throughout the exercise.
- Lift your big toe while keeping your other toes relaxed on the floor.
- Lower your big toe back down with control.
- Next, keep your big toe on the floor and lift your other four toes.
- Lower the toes back down slowly.
- Continue alternating between lifting the big toe and lifting the other toes.
- Keep your foot relaxed and avoid rolling your ankle inwards or outwards.
- Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
