  • This exercise helps improve deep neck flexor strength and posture by encouraging gentle retraction of the head while maintaining an upright thoracic spine position.
  • The rolled towel placed behind the thoracic spine blocks the thoracic to isolate cervical movement.
  • It is commonly prescribed for neck pain, forward head posture, postural dysfunction and cervical spine rehabilitation.
  • Stand with your back against a wall.
  • Position a rolled towel vertically between your shoulder blades, separating your upper back and the wall.
  • Stand tall with your shoulders relaxed and your chin level with the floor.
  • Gently draw your chin straight backwards, as if making a “double chin”.
  • Keep the back of your head moving towards the wall without tilting your head up or down.
  • You can add an overpressure by gently pressing two fingers into your chin in this end position.
  • Slowly relax back to the starting position.
  • Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
