The crab walk with a band at the knees is a lateral hip strengthening exercise that targets the gluteus medius and other stabilising muscles. The resistance band encourages proper knee alignment and increases muscle activation. This movement is often used in rehab for hip or knee pain, falls prevention programs, and to improve walking stability.
- Secure the band above the knees.
- Come into a squat position, sending the hips back and maintaining the knees over the top of the ankles.
- Side step controlling the movement of the stepping foot against the band.
- As you step imagine you are passing under a shallow roof, maintaining the squat depth.
