  • Attach a handle to the cable machine and adjust the pulley to either a high or low position, depending on the prescribed direction of movement.
  • Stand side on to the cable machine with your feet shoulder width apart and hold the handle with both hands.
  • Step away from the machine until there is light tension on the cable.
  • Stand tall, engage your core and maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement.
  • Keeping your arms comfortably extended, move the handle diagonally across your body in a smooth, controlled motion.
  • Allow your hips and shoulders to rotate naturally as you move, while keeping your feet planted unless otherwise instructed.
  • Finish with your hands at the opposite side of your body, maintaining control throughout the movement.
  • Slowly return to the starting position, resisting the pull of the cable.
  • Avoid using momentum or allowing your trunk to bend forwards, backwards or sideways.
  • Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
