The elbow distraction exercise is a gentle joint mobilisation technique used to reduce stiffness and improve movement at the elbow. By applying light pulling force, it can help relieve joint pressure and restore range of motion after injury or immobilisation. This technique is often included in rehab for elbow pain, stiffness, or post-surgical recovery.
- Rest your elbow on a table.
- Place a rolled up towel, small ball or foam roller in your elbow crease.
- Bend the elbow to keep the towel in place.
- Use your other hand to bend the elbow slightly further, and then release.
- Repeat this as many times as your Physiotherapist has prescribed.
