Elbow flexion and extension active range of motion (AROM) is a gentle mobility exercise that moves the elbow through its natural bend and straighten. It helps reduce stiffness, restore movement, and maintain joint health after injury or surgery. This simple exercise is often one of the first steps in elbow rehabilitation.

  • In a seated or standing position keep your arm by your side.
  • From this position, bring the palm of your hand up towards your shoulder in its full available range.
  • Control the back of your hand back down to a straightened position.
  • Repeat as per physiotherapist instructions.
