Grip plus Lateral Raise is a shoulder mobility exercise that combines a sustained hand grip with a lateral arm raise. The gripping component helps increase activation through the forearm and shoulder musculature, while the lateral raise primarily targets the middle deltoid. This exercise is commonly prescribed to improve shoulder strength, stability and endurance, particularly when returning to overhead activities or addressing shoulder weakness.
- Stand upright holding a ball, rolled towel, grip trainer or similar object in your hand.
- Maintain a firm grip throughout the movement.
- With your elbow slightly bent, slowly raise your arm out to the side, working within comfortable range.
- Slowly lower your arm back to the starting position in a controlled manner.
- Continue to maintain the grip throughout the exercise.
- Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
