This exercise combines a sustained gripping action with an overhead press, challenging the muscles of the hand and forearm while also activating the rotator cuff muscles through range. It is commonly prescribed to improve grip strength, shoulder stability, overhead control and overall upper limb function. The gripping component increases activation through the forearm muscles, while the pressing movement targets the deltoids, triceps and stabilising muscles around the shoulder blade.
- Stand tall holding the prescribed weight or grip device in one hand with your arm bent and your hand positioned at shoulder height.

- Press the weight directly overhead, working within a comfortable range.
- Slowly lower the weight back to shoulder height with control.
- Maintain a consistent grip squeeze throughout the entire movement.
