The jerk dip drive is the first phase of the split jerk or power jerk.
It focuses on developing explosive leg drive, efficient force transfer through the body, and proper bar path.
This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps, gluteals and calves while also engaging the core and upper back to maintain a stable front rack position.
It is commonly prescribed to improve power production, reinforce correct jerk mechanics, and prepare for the full jerk movement.
Stand with your feet about hip-width apart and the barbell resting securely in the front rack position across your shoulders.
Brace your core, keep your chest tall, and point your elbows slightly forward to maintain a strong front rack.
Keeping your torso upright, perform a short, controlled dip by bending your knees while keeping your heels in contact with the floor.
Avoid allowing your knees to collapse inward or your hips to shift backwards during the dip.
Immediately reverse the movement by driving forcefully through your feet, extending your knees and hips explosively.
Transfer the force directly into the bar, allowing it to rise from the upward drive without pressing excessively with your arms.
Return the bar under control back to the front rack position.
Reset your position before beginning the next repetition.
Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
