This McKenzie-based knee extension exercise is designed to help improve knee extension range of motion, reduce stiffness, and restore normal movement following knee injury or surgery. By repeatedly straightening the knee while sitting, the exercise encourages the knee to move towards full extension and can help reduce discomfort associated with restricted movement.

  • Sit upright on the edge of a chair or bed
  • Position the affected leg out straight in front of you
  • Place your hands on top of one another and above your knee joint
  • Straighten your knee and use your hands to gently push perpendicular to your knee to encourage more movement
  • Oscillate/repeat this movement as prescribed by your physiotherapist
