This reformer exercise combines a Romanian deadlift (RDL) with a scooter movement to challenge the gluteals, hamstrings, quadriceps and trunk stabilisers. The RDL develops hip-hinge control and posterior chain strength, while the scooter component adds single-leg stability and controlled hip extension. It is commonly used to improve lower-limb strength, pelvic control, balance and functional movement quality.
- Stand beside the reformer with one foot firmly on the floor and the other foot positioned securely against the shoulder rest on the carriage.
- Keep your feet facing forwards and maintain a soft bend in the knee of your standing leg.
- Gently engage your abdominals and keep your pelvis level.
- RDL: Hinge forwards from your hips, allowing your torso to lean forwards while keeping your spine long and your standing knee softly bent.
- Keep your weight through the heel and mid-foot of your standing leg, then squeeze your gluteals to return to an upright position.
- Scooter: From an upright position, bend your standing knee slightly and press the carriage backwards with the reformer leg by extending through the hip.
- Slowly control the carriage back towards the starting position without allowing your pelvis or trunk to rotate.
- Keep your standing knee tracking in line with your toes throughout both movements.
- Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
