This Pilates-based motor control exercise is designed to improve lumbopelvic stability while encouraging controlled movement of the right hip. It targets the deep abdominal muscles, including transversus abdominis, while coordinating movement through the hip flexors and quadriceps. The exercise helps develop core control, improve lower limb movement without compensatory trunk motion, and enhance movement awareness.
- Lie on your back with both knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
- Gently engage your deep abdominal muscles to maintain a neutral spine.
- Lift your right foot off the floor and bring your knee towards your chest
- Slowly straighten your right knee until your leg reaches approximately 45 degrees to the floor.
- Keep your pelvis level and your lower back in a neutral position throughout the movement
- Breathe steadily throughout the exercise and avoid holding your breath.
- Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
