The Scooter Pilates exercise with a Theraband is a standing lower-limb exercise that targets the gluteal muscles, quadriceps and hamstrings, while also challenging hip and pelvic stability. The supporting leg works to maintain balance and alignment while the moving leg presses backwards against the resistance of the band. It is commonly used to improve glute strength, single-leg control, balance and lower-limb stability for everyday activities such as walking, stairs and recreational exercise.
- Anchor one foot into the theraband and stand facing a sturdy bench, kitchen counter or chair for light support.
- Shift your weight onto one leg and soften the supporting knee slightly.
- Hinge forwards a little from your hips, keeping your back long and pelvis level.
- Bend the moving leg then slowly kick your backwards against the resistance of the band.
- Slowly and with control, return the moving foot towards the starting position while maintaining tension in the Theraband.
- Keep your trunk and pelvis steady throughout rather than rocking forwards and backwards.
- Complete repetitions as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
