Wash your hands thoroughly before performing the exercise.
Sit upright in a comfortable position with your jaw relaxed.
To locate the TMJ, place a fingertip just in front of your ear and slowly open and close your mouth. You will feel the joint moving beneath your finger.
Place your thumb inside your mouth along the lower molars on the side you wish to treat.
Wrap your fingers around the outside of your jaw so your hand gently grips the lower jaw.
Apply a gentle sideways pressure to the jaw.
Maintain a gentle, sustained pressure while keeping the jaw relaxed.
The movement should feel like a mild stretch or mobilisation and should not reproduce significant pain.
Hold/maintain as prescribed by your physiotherapist.
