The Semont manoeuvre (or “liberatory manoeuvre”) is a therapeutic, physical procedure to treat posterior canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo for crystals that are lodged in the cupula.
It uses rapid head and body movements to dislodge displaced otolith crystals from the ear canal, curing the associated dizziness and vertigo.
- Sit comfortable in the middle part of the bed
- Turn your head away from the affected ear
- Quickly move the the side of the affected ear
- Your head position should be looking upwards once on your side
- Wait for 2 minutes after the symptoms have settled
- Quickly move to the other side
- Your should be looking to the floor
- Wait for 2 minutes after the symptoms have settled
- Sowly come back to a sitting position
- Repeat as per the direction of your physiotherapist
